AVBZ - Special medical expenses

Updated on October 4, 2019

The AVBZ, popularly known as Lei di Labizjan, is a national insurance policy to which the solidarity principle applies. The law was introduced on 1 January 1997 and covers the risks of the high costs of often lifelong care for the long-term sick and the disabled, which in today's society are not or insufficiently insurable.

It concerns the treatment, nursing, care and support of the chronically physically ill, the psychiatric ill and the mentally and physically handicapped, who meet certain criteria and are therefore designated as AVBZ beneficiaries.
